The Board of Directors of GSTC plays an integral role in the leadership of the organization. Most seats on the board are elected through the annual elections and by current Board members. The Electoral Committee of the GSTC has validated the votes and published the 2018 results, including Patricio Azcárate Díaz de Losada, current Secretary-General of the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI).

Once again, the GSTC Board will benefit from the experience of leaders in sustainable tourism from a variety of countries and continents. "I am very proud to participate in such an experienced and competent Council," said Patricio Azcárate. "I hope to be able to transmit part of the work that we have been developing in the RTI, especially in the integration of sustainable tourism in Destinations and Companies certified by Biosphere".

Commenting on the election, Board Chair Luigi Cabrini stated “Once again the GSTC Board will benefit of the experience of leaders in sustainable tourism from a variety of countries and continents. A warm welcome to the newly elected Directors and thank you to those who will continue to serve for a new term.”

The composition of the Board of Directors, as dictated by our bylaws, consists of 12 seats elected by the membership to 3-year terms, 5 seats appointed by the board to 1-year terms, 2 seats reserved for the UN, for a total of 19 voting seats. Additionally, the board includes these non-voting members: 1 elected seat for a 1-year term from a Certification Body, the Chair of the Accreditation Panel, and the CEO.
