First company certified in Güímar

The Starlight Camino Barranco de Badajoz Starlight Park, in Güímar, received the Biosphere certification last Thursday 26th May in recognition of its good practices in sustainability. It became the first entity in the municipality to become part of the Biosphere Community. The event was covered by Televisión Canaria and several institutional representatives, including the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, David Pérez, and the mayor of the municipality, Gustavo Pérez.

On Thursday 26th May, the Espacio Cultural Los Ángeles, in Güímar, hosted the presentation of the Biosphere certification to the Starlight Camino Barranco de Badajoz Starlight Park. This marks the first company in the municipality to become a member of the Biosphere Community. An agreement taking place within the framework of the cooperation between Biosphere Sustainable and the Tourism Initiative Centers.

Although the certification is recent, Star Park is already working on 52 actions to contribute to the preservation of the environment. For example, the promotion of educational and dissemination activities on sustainable development, the support to local SMEs to distribute the wealth of the territory or the implementation of measures to prevent the degradation of habitats, species and ecosystems.

Thus, Camino Barranco de Badajoz Starlight Park, which organizes activities as interesting as observing the night sky or moon craters, joins the more than 350 units in Tenerife which make up the Biosphere Community, contributing to the preservation of a unique natural area full of history.

The event was covered by Televisión Canaria, where Sandra Ramirez, the Executive Director CEO and Founder of the Parque Estelar Starlight Camino Barranco de Badajoz, highlighted the international value of the Biosphere certification, as well as the importance of working towards the different Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations.

Also present were the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, David Pérez; the Secretary General of the Responsible Tourism Institute, Patricio Azcárate; the Mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez Martín; the First Deputy Mayor of the Town Council of Güímar, Airam Puerta; the Councilor for Social Services of the Town Council of Güímar, José Miguel Hernández Fernández and the Director of the Starlight Foundation, Antonia Varela.
