At Biosphere Responsible Tourism, also referred to as BRT, we are a certification body that independently assesses compliance with the Biosphere Scheme, supporting businesses and destinations in their process of continuous improvement towards sustainability.
Our certification processes are third-party, with external and independent audits, and follow the principles of competence, consistency and impartiality that ISO/IEC 17065 requires of those who apply it. At BRT we offer our certification services in 7 languages and 100% online, with coverage for businesses of different types —hotels, restaurants, museums, among others— and for destination management bodies, which we call «destinations». At present, the certification services we offer are solely for the Biosphere scheme.
In order to offer our certification services and processes online, we have designed our own platform, Biosphere Sustainable; a virtual system where each entity interested in becoming certified registers its profile and completes its certification process autonomously. There it can consult at any time the information and documentation on its good practices and receive, 100% online, the external audits needed to verify them.
Once its documented actions have been verified, at BRT we have also worked on the communication side, designing our own public online repository, where we list all the entities to which we have issued a certification currently in force, so that anyone interested can consult the verified activities, the validity and scope of the certificate, and the rest of the relevant information on the certifications issued by our certification body.
Biosphere Responsible Tourism has been authorised by the Responsible Tourism Institute, owner of the Biosphere Scheme, as a body to independently assess compliance with the Biosphere Scheme, and therefore to offer certification services under that scheme (auditing, and deciding on the granting, renewal or withdrawal of the Biosphere certificate). At present, Biosphere Responsible Tourism S.L. is the only authorised body.
You can hire our certification services wherever you are. As it is completed online through our platform, the whole certification process, from the documentation through to the assessment and audit service, can be carried out remotely, without the location of your entity being a barrier.
And you don't need to worry about the language! By offering our services internationally, we have made sure that you can carry out the certification process in your own language and without having to translate your documentation to be assessed in the audit processes. To achieve this, we have designed our platform with all the instructions and functions needed for the certification process under the Biosphere Scheme in up to seven languages, the same ones in which we make our audit services available: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, French, German and Turkish.
