Sitges receives the Biosphere Gold Destination distinction

Turisme de Sitges gathers part of the local tourism sector in an annual meeting to highlight the Biosphere Gold distinction, obtained this 2022, as well as present local actions in terms of sustainability.

The Sitges Tourism Day was held at the Terramar Golf Club in Sitges. This has been the fourth meeting of the Tourism Board with the local business community in an action which aims to transfer knowledge in different tourism areas and which has been held continuously since 2019. The mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, points out that "obtaining the Biosphere Gold certification shows that Sitges is on the right track to being a more sustainable, inclusive, unique, intelligent and culturally alive town all year round. If Sitges is a good place to live, it will also be a good place to visit".

The Mayor has presented the main projects of Sitges in the framework of sustainability, which are in line with the Biosphere Gold certification to improve local competitiveness and the contribution to sustainability linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (ODS). Among the projects, carried out in the last year and with future projections, stand out the new beach models, the actions to promote the energy transition both at the level of housing and mobility, with the installation of photovoltaics in some municipal offices, as well as other measures designed to make Sitges a more sustainable and environmentally friendly destination.

The Councilor for Tourism, Luis Miguel García, highlights "the importance of obtaining and analyzing data for the sustainable and efficient management of the territory, prioritizing the experience of the tourist as another resident of Sitges".
