Tenerife promotes sustainable tourism with the 7th edition of the sustainable Tourism practices contest

Turismo de Tenerife recognizes the innovation and commitment of companies and local administrations to more responsible tourism aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. In its seventh edition, the contest awarded key projects in circular economy, environmental education, energy efficiency, and regenerative tourism.

Turismo de Tenerife held the awards ceremony for the 7th Sustainable Tourism Practices Contest, a well-established initiative that reinforces the island's commitment to a responsible tourism model aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This contest, organized by Turismo de Tenerife, consolidates the destination as an international benchmark in sustainable tourism.

During the event, which took place in the Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife, five projects were recognized for their innovation and capacity to transform the sector in key areas such as circular economy, environmental education, sustainable gastronomy, energy efficiency, and regenerative tourism.

From Biosphere and the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), we congratulate all the awardees for their valuable contribution to the development of more balanced, inclusive, and environmentally respectful tourism. A total of twenty applications were evaluated, demonstrating the growing interest and commitment of the local community to sustainability.

The awards ceremony was attended by the Vice President and Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso; the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani; and the Secretary-General and CEO of Biosphere, Patricio Azcárate, who emphasized the key role of good practices in evolving toward a more just and resilient tourism model.

Island Council of Tenerife to lead the shift toward a sustainable tourism destination model, supported by its Biosphere Certified certification, a guarantee that the destination has implemented verified sustainable practices and fulfills its commitments to sustainable development.
