Online training from the Responsible Tourism Institute

RTI was founded in 1997 following a founding Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO, with the aim of promoting sustainability and responsibility in tourism. Accordingly, its courses cover sustainability, sustainable development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international frameworks and principles.

RTI is the owner of these courses: it develops the content, appoints the teaching staff, manages enrolment, payment and invoicing, and issues and signs the diplomas. Biosphere Responsible Tourism, S.L. (BRT) collaborates with RTI by hosting the course information, student registration and the virtual campus on this website.

Duration and evaluation method

All our courses are delivered online and asynchronously. This means that you can enroll at any time and complete the course at your own pace, with a fully flexible schedule. You will have up to 6 months of uninterrupted access to complete all modules. For each module, you will have a test-type evaluation that will allow you to self-evaluate for the final evaluation. Once you have completed all the contents of the course, you will be able to take the final evaluation, which consists of an online test, with questions about the contents taught throughout the course. If you pass the final assessment, the Responsible Tourism Institute will issue you with a personalised course diploma.

How and when can I register for a Biosphere training course?

The courses are asynchronous: they are followed online, with no live classes or groups, so you can enrol whenever you like. Click ‘View more’ on the course you are interested in and press ‘Enrol now’. You will be taken to the Responsible Tourism Institute's payment gateway, as RTI is the owner of the course. Once you have completed payment, you will receive a welcome email with instructions for accessing the virtual campus. From that moment, you will have six months to view all the content and pass the assessments.

Are these courses subsidised training courses?

No, the courses delivered on our virtual campus cannot be managed through FUNDAE or other subsidised training bodies.

Training VS certification

Taking a course is not a requirement for certification; it does not make certification easier or quicker, and it has no bearing on the outcome of any conformity assessment under any certification Scheme. Nor do you need to have taken a course in order to request Biosphere Responsible Tourism's certification services. On each course page, you will find information on the different modules and content included, the language in which it is delivered and other relevant information.
