As agreed at the World Summit on Sustainable Tourism, the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism +20 reaches the hands of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The document was handed by Itziar Epalza, Deputy Minister of Trade and Tourism of the Basque Government, to the maximum responsibility in Europe UNWTO, Isabel Garaña, in an event held at the stand of the Basque Country, in Fitur.

In the handing of the World Charter they have participated Luigi Cabrini, director of the Secretariat of the WTO and chairman of the board of directors of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and President of the Institute of Responsible Tourism (ITR), Tomas Azcarate.

The World Charter is a guide to move towards a well-managed tourism, which will become the protagonist of safeguarding the existing treasures for future generations, and ensure the protection and integrity of the common, tangible and intangible heritage.

Two decades after the meeting of Lanzarote, Vitoria gathered in November nearly 200 experts who concluded that "tourism should be compatible with the conservation of nature and biodiversity, and should respond urgently to climate change, with the progressive reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) to grow in a sustainable manner. "

Now this World Charter, in the hands of the WTO, notes that tourism has not only to contribute to world economic recovery, but also innovate in the use of energy, resources, transportation and communication systems.
