Central Portugal, new destination to join the Biosphere Community

The Central Portugal destination takes its first step towards sustainability with the signing of the RTI Commitment Charter.

The event in which the destination Central Portugal signed its commitment to sustainability took place on 22 July and was attended by Rita Marques, Secretary of Estado de Turismo, Luís Araújo, President of Turismo de Portugal and Pedro Machado, President of Turismo Centro de Portugal.

Likewise, the Secretary General of the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), Patricio Azcárate Díaz de Losada, presented at the virtual event, a short introduction to the Biosphere model and how it is applied to destinations and their business community.

With this event, a project to reinforce the good practices of Tourism Sustainability, 'Centro Sostenible', is implemented in order to affirm the positioning of the destination Central Portugal in terms of sustainability.

The project will be financed by the "Line of Support to the Sustainability of Tourism of Portugal".
