Global recognition for sustainable and responsible tourism.

The international commitment to sustainable tourism was once again highlighted during the 2025 Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards ceremony, held in Cusco, Peru, as part of the 84th Skål International World Congress.

In an edition that brought together 106 proposals from 30 countries, the competition stood out for the high quality of the entries and the growing interest in promoting responsible, ethical, and innovative tourism.

From Biosphere and the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), we sincerely congratulate all the winners and participants, whose commitment demonstrates that sustainability is now the cornerstone of global tourism development.

Global commitment to sustainable tourism.

The Skål Sustainable Tourism Awards were created to recognize and showcase best practices in sustainable tourism among businesses, institutions, and destinations. Year after year, the competition has become one of the main international references in sustainable tourism, aligning its values with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the opening ceremony, Skål International President Denise Scrafton, together with local authorities and industry representatives, emphasized the transformative role of tourism when it is managed responsibly and innovatively.

Biosphere’s collaboration with Skål International.

Once again, Biosphere and the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) participated as official partners of the awards program, reinforcing their commitment to promoting sustainable tourism models.

The Secretary-General of the RTI and CEO of Biosphere, Patricio Azcárate Díaz de Losada, served as a member of this year’s jury, evaluating submissions that demonstrated significant progress in sustainable tourism.

In addition, Fabián Román, member of the RTI Board of Directors, highlighted during the event the positive impact that Biosphere and the Responsible Tourism Institute are generating across Latin America, fostering the adoption of tourism models aligned with the SDGs.

Special Skål Biosphere Sustainable Award.

Since 2018, Biosphere and Skål International have maintained an active collaboration through the Special Skål Biosphere Sustainable Award, presented to the winners of each category of the Sustainable Tourism Awards.

This recognition includes a one-year free subscription to the Biosphere Sustainable platform, allowing organizations to create their own customized sustainability plans designed for continuous improvement and the assessment of their efforts in sustainable tourism.

The Biosphere Certified distinction, associated with the system developed by the RTI, validates compliance with verified sustainable practices, ensuring transparency and consistency with each entity’s commitments.
